- Uganda won by 10 wickets
Uganda’s Victoria Pearls launched their Kwibuka T20 title defense with a commanding 10-wicket victory over Cameroon at the Gahanga B Oval on Wednesday morning.
After winning the toss, Uganda elected to field first, capitalizing on favourable conditions.
Their decision quickly paid off as Cameroon collapsed to a meagre 42 all out in 19.4 overs, with only three batters managing to score more than a single run.
The Ugandan bowling attack was ruthless, with Stephanie Nampiina leading the charge by claiming 3 wickets for just a few runs in 3.4 overs, earning her the Woman of the Match award.
She was well supported by Sarah Akiteng and Sarah Walaza, who each picked up two wickets. The fielding unit also contributed significantly with two run-outs executed by Akiteng and wicketkeeper Kevin Awino.
Cameroon struggled throughout, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to build any partnerships. Madeleine Ssissako top-scored with a modest 3 runs while six Cameroonian players were dismissed without scoring.
In response, Uganda chased down the target effortlessly in just 4.5 overs, finishing at 43 without loss. Openers Janet Mbabazi (16) and Iloku Esther (11) guided their team to a comfortable victory, backed by extras contributing 16 runs to the total.
After the match, a jubilant Nampiina praised her teammates:
“I’m very happy because my team has won. We opted to field because we are focused on winning the tournament,” she said. “But I’m even more grateful for the backup from my teammates while I was bowling. It really helped me achieve this.”
Uganda will next face Zimbabwe Emerging on Thursday morning at the Gahanga Main Oval, with the match scheduled to begin at 10:45 AM EAT.
