The Victoria Series 2025 took a short break off but the spirit of cricket stayed alive at Gayaza High School.
Here, Uganda’s Victoria Pearls and Canada Women teamed up to celebrate ICC Women’s Cricket Week.

The colorful event brought together international stars, national players, and enthusiastic students in a vibrant show of teamwork, mentorship, and empowerment.

It aimed to inspire young girls to see cricket not just as a sport, but as a path to confidence and community.
Led by Uganda Cricket Association officials Lelia Namaganda Ondeko (Women’s Representative) and Acting CEO Evelyn Kabongerwa Shinyekwa, the day featured skill-sharing sessions in batting, bowling, and fielding.
Coaches from the Central Region Hub and Development Manager Davis Turinawe joined players from both teams to guide the students through fun drills and mini-matches.

“It’s amazing to see all of you here,” said Namaganda.
“This is a global celebration of girls and women in cricket and today, it’s all about you.”
For many Gayaza students, it was their first time holding a bat or ball. Yet under the professionals’ guidance, their confidence grew quickly as laughter filled the field.

Evelyn Kabongera highlighted the broader message;
“From schoolyards like this to international stadiums, girls are showing the world what they’re made of.”
By sunset, the event had sparked new dreams. In one frame stood three forces of women’s cricket, the Victoria Pearls, Canada Women and the Gayaza Girls united by passion, purpose, and the promise of a brighter future for women’s cricket in Uganda.
