The Victoria Pearls beat Omtex ICWC SR by 28 runs on Friday to conclude their tour of India on a high.

The side coached by Lawrence Ssematimba started this tour with two losses, but they wrap it up with a victory which is their third in a row.

After setting 109/8, the onus was on the bowlers to defend the score, a task which they found no trouble doing.

Immaculate Nakisuyi who scored 35 in the Ugandan innings and who was the eventual Player of the Match plucked two wickets as Uganda failed the opposition in their chase.

Sarah Akiteng, also came out with two from the two Overs she bowled. Sarah Walaza maintained her opening bowling duties, but the game also saw the return of youngsters Malisa Ariokot and Lorna Anyait to the bowling unit. The teenagers each picked a wicket.

Evelyn Anyipo was for the second time excluded from the bowling line up. Team captain Consy Aweko left herself out too in this one as they opted for a much younger line up.

16-year-old Olila High School student Immaculate Nandera made her debut for the Victoria Pearls where she scored an unbeaten (2 off 4), bowled 3 overs taking a sole wicket and conceded 13 runs at an economy rate of 4.33

The tour was aimed at preparing Uganda for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers due in April in Dubai, but the Victoria Pearls will first turn their attention to the African Games that get underway on 8th March.

Cricket for the first time will feature at these games and Uganda will be among the eight nations that will debut the game.

The Victoria Pearls are placed in Group B alongside Zimbabwe, Kenya and Rwanda. They will get that campaign underway against Kenya.
