  • Uganda W 103/6 in 20 Overs ( Kevin Awino 31, Rita Musamali 28, Stephanie Nampina 6/8)
  • Malawi W 53/10 in 18.0 Overs ( Lydia Dimba 29, Ffebe Malefula 7)
  • Uganda W won by 50 runs

Uganda’s Victoria Pearls showcased their class and composure on Sunday morning, overpowering Malawi by 50 runs in a commanding display in the 2025 Kwibuka tournament at the Gahanga Main Oval.

In a match where discipline and strategy ruled, Uganda shrugged off early stumbles with the bat to set a defendable target, then unleashed a clinical bowling performance to seal the victory.

Malawi won the toss and opted to bowl first, hoping to put early pressure on Uganda’s top order, they succeeded initially.

Uganda’s innings got off to a shaky start with both Janet Mbabazi (1) and Immaculate Nakisuuyi (1) dismissed cheaply within the first two overs. Esther Iloku (11) tried to steady the ship but fell just as momentum seemed to be building.

It was wicketkeeper Kevin Awino (31 off 47) and the dynamic Rita Musamali (28 off 28) who laid the foundation for Uganda’s eventual recovery.

Their 37-run partnership injected much-needed stability. Late fireworks came from Proscovia Alako whose quickfire 20 off 12 balls, including a six, propelled the Victoria Pearls to a respectable 103 for 6 in their 20 overs.

Malawi’s bowlers had moments to celebrate, with Lucy Malino (2/14) and Lydia Dimba (1/16) picking up key wickets while the fielders contributed with two crucial run-outs.

For Malawi’s chase, it never gained momentum despite a solid effort from opener Lydia Dimba (29), the rest of the batting lineup wilted against Uganda’s relentless attack with notable change as Esther Iloku was pushed to the stumps as wicket keeper instead of the usual experienced Kevin Awino.

Stephanie Nampiina delivered a spell to remember, ripping through the Malawian middle and lower order with remarkable figures of 6 wickets for just 8 runs in her four overs.

Her precision and variations left Malawi’s batters visibly rattled, eventually bagging the Player of the Match accolade.

However, still in the game, support came from all corners Sarah Walaza (1/6), Phiona Egaru Kulume (1/7) and Teddy Oyella (1/11) each chipped in, ensuring Malawi’s innings folded for a paltry 53 runs in 18 overs.

Rita Musamali contributed further in the field, claiming four catches and reinforcing her all-round value to the team.

With Sunday’s emphatic win, Uganda sent a clear message to their rivals in the tournament. They will now enjoy a well-earned rest on Monday before returning to face a formidable Tanzanian side on Tuesday, June 10th, again at the Gahanga Main Oval.
