As the Victoria Pearls prepare for their opening game at the African Games in Ghana, team captain Consy Aweko insists her team is well rested and ready to open the tournament positively.
Uganda will be among the eight countries that will debut the game of cricket at this tournament. Their women’s team, the Victoria Pearls, will face Kenya in their first game on Thursday.
The Victoria Pearls who will feature at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers in Dubai in April only returned last week from India where they had camped in preparations for the aforementioned tournament, but Aweko is adamant her team is well set.

“We had the chance to rest well amidst our quick travel from India, the team has used the rest day to our advantage to see that we recover fully and prepare for our first game against Kenya.” Aweko said.
These two sides last met at the Kwibuka Memorial in June last year in Rwanda where Uganda came out tops. Aweko is backing her team to continue with their winning streak.
“As a team, we are ready to face Kenya. It’s our first game so we won’t take anything for granted. Playing against Kenya is an opportunity for us as Uganda to see that we get our first win.”
Uganda is placed in Group B. Their other group opponents include Zimbabwe who they evened up against in India during their tour and Rwanda, another East African rival.
