After two tightly contested wins, Uganda’s national women’s cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, faced their first stumble in the 2025 Capricorn Eagles Series, falling to hosts Namibia by 23 runs on Day 3 of the tournament at the High Performance Centre on Friday evening.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl first, hoping to continue their winning momentum. But Namibia’s batters had other plans.

Led by a solid opening stand, Namibia posted a respectable 124/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Kayleen Green was the standout, scoring a composed 48 off 42 balls with five boundaries and two sixes. She was well supported by Captain Sunè Wittmann, who added 29 runs.

Despite tight spells from Uganda’s bowlers, especially Immaculate Nakisuuyi (1/21) and captain Consylate Aweko (2/31), Namibia maintained a steady scoring pace. A late cameo by Wilka Mwatile helped push the total past 120.

Uganda’s chase never quite gathered the pace it needed. Opener Kevin Awino held the innings together with a gritty 28 not out off 51 balls, but the lack of boundaries and consistent pressure from Namibia’s bowlers strangled the run rate.

The early loss of Esther Iloku for a duck and a middle-order collapse that saw Uganda at 62 for 4 by the 14th over, left too much to do in the end. Malisa Ariokot offered some late resistance with a spirited 24 off 23 balls, but it wasn’t enough as the Pearls closed their innings at 101/4.

Namibia’s Saima Tuhadeleni and Eveleen Kejarukua were clinical with the ball, each taking a wicket and keeping the scoring in check. Mwatile Mekelaye also chipped in with two crucial dismissals, including that of the dangerous Nampiina Stephanie.

Despite the loss, Uganda still leads the seven-match series 2-1, with the next match scheduled for Saturday, April 12. The defeat will serve as both a wake-up call and motivation for the Victoria Pearls who remain determined to bounce back and seal the series on Namibian soil.
