The national women’s senior cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, have today been flagged off to Abu Dhabi, UAE for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers.
The side was flagged off on Thursday morning by the State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang at their cricket home in Lugogo.
Having featured at this tournament in 2018, Uganda will be making their second appearance. They will begin their campaign against Scotland at the Tolerance Oval. Being a night game, it will be a first time experience for the girls.
The Victoria Pearls will then face USA on 27th, Thailand on 29th before finalizing their games against Sri Lanka on 1st May. Sri Lanka is ranked the highest at this tournament.
Uganda will be hoping to be among the top two in Abu Dhabi as only two tickets from this qualifier are available for Bangladesh where the World Cup will take place later this year.
Aside from Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, USA- the Victoria Pearls group opponents, the event will also feature Vanuatu, Ireland, Netherlands, the hosts UAE and Zimbabwe- the other side that qualified from Africa.
The Victoria Pearls before the tournament proper will gauge themselves against some of these nations including the hosts and Vanuatu in the warm up games that will be played between 21st and 23rd.
