  • Uganda won by 7 wickets

Uganda’s Victoria Pearls continued their sparkling form at the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament, brushing aside a determined Brazil side by seven wickets on Saturday morning to record their fourth consecutive win.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Uganda’s bowlers displayed discipline and control, restricting Brazil to a modest 80 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Team captain Janet Mbabazi led from the front, taking a stellar 4 for 16, while pacer Kevin Amuge chipped in with a wicket and three run-outs added to Brazil’s woes.

Brazil’s innings struggled for momentum from the outset. Roberta De Melo Moretti Avery top-scored with a patient 23 off 36 balls, but regular wickets disrupted any hopes of a substantial total.

Mbabazi’s sharp bowling and Uganda’s fielding brilliance, including key run-outs by Kevin Amuge and others, kept the pressure on throughout.

Uganda chased down the target comfortably in 12.1 overs, finishing at 81 for 3. Immaculate Nakisuuyi played a fluent knock, scoring an unbeaten 34 off 27 balls with six boundaries, anchoring the innings.

Mbabazi contributed 7 runs with the bat, while openers Esther Iloku (13) and Rita Musamali (6) supported the chase.

For her all-round performance, 4 wickets and valuable contributions in the field, Mbabazi was named Player of the Match.

Speaking after the win, the captain expressed her pride; “Today we played our next game against Brazil and I’m very happy with the team performance. We restricted them to 80 and had very good contributions from both our batters and bowlers,” she said.

Mbabazi also celebrated a personal milestone:
”I’m proud to have reached 100 career wickets, but it’s all about team effort. Special credit to Kevin Awino behind the stumps and Immaculate for an exceptional knock today.”

Looking ahead, Mbabazi stressed the importance of maintaining momentum: “We play our last game tomorrow and we hope to stick to our team plans, support each other, and enjoy the game.”

Uganda will return to action on Sunday, June 8, facing Malawi at 10:30 AM at the Gahanga Main Oval with hopes of finishing the round-robin stage on a high.
