The Uganda Cricket Association has named a 14-player Victoria Pearls squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers, set for August 31 to September 6 in Windhoek, Namibia.
Captain Janet Mbabazi will lead a balanced side combining experience and youth. All-rounder Naume Jane Amongin, batter Malisa Ariokot, and young bowler Irene Mutonyi return after school breaks, joining key players Proscovia Alako, Immaculate Nakisuuyi, Consy Aweko Nimungu, and Kevin Awino.
Uganda is in Group B alongside Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania, opening their campaign against Tanzania on August 31 at the High Performance Oval.
The top two teams will progress to the Global Qualifier, the last step toward the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales.
Despite a tough challenge from hosts Namibia and regional giants Zimbabwe, the Pearls are optimistic under new coaches Deus Muhumuza and Brian Masaba, aiming to bounce back after last year’s disappointing Global Qualifier in Abu Dhabi.
