Uganda’s Victoria Pearls continued their fine form in the Victoria Series 2025, defeating Canada by 43 runs on Friday afternoon to record their fourth straight victory.

After a few quiet games, middle-order batter Rita Musamali returned to form with the bat, managing a solid 46 off 43 balls, her best performance of the series.

It was a timely comeback for Musamali, who had fallen for a duck in Thursday’s match but had shown glimpses of her all-round value earlier in the week with a combined 15 runs and notable 2 wickets.

She found able support in Proscovia Alako, who stayed unbeaten on 31 off 30 balls, her third consecutive double-figure score in the series.

The pair steadied Uganda after an early wobble that saw three wickets fall within six overs, guiding the Pearls to a competitive 113 for 4 in 20 overs.

Canada’s Rabbjyot Rajput stood out with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 16 runs in four tidy overs, while Terisha Lavia claimed the other wicket.

Defending 113, Uganda’s bowlers wasted no time asserting control. Canada’s top order crumbled to 6 for 3 inside the first three overs, undone by sharp pace and disciplined lines.

The consistent Kevin Amuge struck twice in her fiery spell of 2 for 12, removing skipper Amarpal Kaur (5) and opener Achini Perera (0).

Youngster Sarah Tino continued to impress with 1 for 19 from her four overs, while Immaculate Nakisuuyi (2/6) and Consylate Aweko (1/9) mopped up the tail.

Uganda’s fielding was also outstanding, with three run-outs highlighting their growing composure and teamwork under pressure. Canada eventually crawled to 70 for 9 in 20 overs, never threatening the chase.

Friday’s win was another sign of Uganda’s steady progress as cited by both head coach Dues Muhumuza and assistant Brian Masaba, who have both praised the team’s improved batting and bowling consistency.

Despite knowing it was the team’s strongest point by many, the two areas at some point in the series once held them back.

With the ICC Emerging Trophy in sight, Victoria Pearls will need more of the consistency than the complacency exhibited at times in the batting most especially in the top order where Esther Iloku hasn’t got going and fielding after proving they are a better side than 31st ranked Canada who have so far offered little resistance.

There were personal achievements too. Kevin Awino reached her 100th T20I cap, while Stephanie Nampiina earlier this week surpassed 1,000 T20I runs, milestones that reflect Uganda’s growing experience on the international stage.

With Teddy Oyella and Jimia Muhammad yet to feature in the series, the Pearls still have depth to explore as they eye a clean sweep.

Uganda will face Canada once more on Sunday in the final match of the series and with the Lugogo Cricket Oval stands expected to be full, fans will be eager to see their team finish in style.
