Ahead of the Victoria Series that gets underway this Sunday at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, Victoria Pearls captain Consy Aweko is confident about the readiness of her team.
Uganda will face Rwanda in their opening game in the afternoon, their first competitive game since winning the Quadrangular Invitational in Nairobi Kenya, last year, but Aweko is confident her side is good to go.
“We have had many test games to improve fitness levels and team bonding. We have also worked hand in hand with Cricket Cranes coach Laurence Mahatlane so I believe we are ready for this.”
Uganda will be joined by UAE, Tanzania, Kenya, and Rwanda as the competitors of this event, but the former two come as the highly ranked sides.
“Playing against Tanzania and UAE is a win-win for us because of their position in the rankings. We will still gain points even if we lost to them,” Aweko added.
Kenya ranked 23rd will bowl off the tournament on Sunday morning against favorites UAE who are ranked 15th in the World ranking. Still with grading, Uganda is 21st in the world, Tanzania 16th and Rwanda are 26th.
A new winner of the Victoria Series awaits to be announced come 23rd April as Zimbabwe, the defending champions sat out of this edition.
