Uganda’s national women’s cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, began their 2025 Victoria Series in commanding style, cruising to a seven-wicket win over Canada on Monday morning at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Captain Janet Mbabazi won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that paid off almost immediately.

Taking advantage of the cool morning conditions, Uganda’s bowlers hit their stride early, tearing through Canada’s batting order to dismiss them for just 67 runs in 19.2 overs.

Kevin Amuge led the charge with a brilliant spell of 4 wickets for 17 runs, striking twice in her opening overs to remove Vandana Mahajan and Jasmin Oldham and set the tone for the innings.

She was well supported by Immaculate Nakisuuyi (2/13), Naume Jane Amongin (1/11 with 15 dot balls), and Sarah Akiteng (1 wicket).

The fielding was sharp and disciplined, with Rita Musamali and Stephanie Nampiina effecting two key run-outs that left Canada with no way back.

Only Amarpal Kaur (18) and Achini Perera (13) managed to reach double figures in an otherwise bleak outing for the visitors.

Chasing a modest target of 68, Uganda’s batters showed composure and control.

Mbabazi anchored the innings with an unbeaten 37 off 34 balls, guiding her side home after a couple of early wickets.

Nakisuuyi chipped in with 15 runs, while Musamali added 9 as the Pearls sealed victory in just 11.5 overs.

Amuge was named Player of the Match for her decisive bowling performance that set up Uganda’s dominant start to the series.
