Vipers SC will be out to maintain their stranglehold over UPDF FC when the two sides clash in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Sunday at Bombo Military Barracks at 3PM.

Vipers boast an impressive unbeaten run against the “Army Guys,” dating back to 2015. The Venoms have secured eight victories and four draws in their past encounters.

More than just bragging rights are at stake. Vipers are hot on the heels of league leaders BUL FC (24 points), sitting third with 17 points having played a game less.

A win against UPDF would pile pressure on the table-toppers. Meanwhile, UPDF languish in 13th position, a distant nine points below their opponents.

Vipers head coach, Leonard Neiva, has emphasized the importance of replicating training ground form onto the pitch. “We’ve had a productive training week, focusing on aggressive play,” he declared. “It’s now up to the boys to translate that onto the field.”

Vipers squad update

The return of key players like Yunus Sentamu, Milton Karisa, Rogers Torach, Jack Komakech, and Bright Anukani from international duty (2026 World Cup Qualifiers) is a significant boost for Vipers.

Ghanaian Fumador Asiwome and Murushid Juuko are back in the selection mix after recovering from injuries.

However, Vipers will be without Nigerian forward Abubakar Lawal (malaria) and Patrick Mbowa (university exams), alongside long-term absentees Hilary Mukundane and Alfred Mudekereza.

UPDF Seeks Redemption

UPDF FC, reeling from a 2-0 defeat to Arua Hill, are desperate for a response and will draw confidence from their recent sensational 2-0 victory over BUL FC, the only points dropped by the league leaders.

Their coach, Pius Ngabo, has demanded a change in mentality. “We need a different mindset and increased effort to get anything from this game. We’ve prepared the team, now it’s time to execute,” he stressed.
