Five-time Champions League winners TP Mazembe sacked their head coach Franck Dumas.
The development from the neighbouring country came just hours after Uganda’s Vipers SC dumped the Congolese side out of the Champions League.
The Venoms won the Second Round contest 4-2 on penalties at the Stade TP Mazembe on Saturday, following over 180 minutes with the tie locked at 0-0.
“This Saturday, October 15, 2022, President Moïse Katumbi and coach, Mr. Franck Dumas, parted ways in a friendly manner,” a club statement read.
“The President thanked the coach for the work done and wished him a safe journey.”
“Mr. Dumas, on his side, expressed his wishes of full success to TP Mazembe and his supporters,” it added.
“President Moïse Katumbi has decided to suspend the Committee with immediate effect, except Team Secretary, Mr. Hilaire Kabila, who remains in office,” the statement further noted.
The 54-year-old Frenchman was appointed in August 2021 on a two-year contract, but has had his contract terminated with almost a year to go.
It is the second straight year that the Ravens have failed to make it to the group stages of the Champions League.
On the other hand, the Venoms made history and will be playing in the group stages of the competition for the first time ever.
Roberto Oliveira‘s well coached team becomes the first Ugandan team to achieve the feat since KCCA FC in 2018.
Mazembe will for the second time in a row have to negotiate for a place in the CAF Confederation Cup, where they finished in the semi-finals last season.
