As the Uganda Premier League breaks at the halfway stage, Vipers SC sit clear at the top, six points ahead and firmly in control of the title race.
Behind them, it is tight and unpredictable. Surprise contenders Entebbe UPPC are second, KCCA remain a quiet threat, while SC Villa, Police and Kitara are all within touching distance.
But amid the intrigue on the pitch, one unresolved issue continues to hang over the league, the missing fixture between Vipers and Kitara.
While most sides have played 15 matches, both Vipers and Kitara have only 14.
Their meeting, scheduled for October 4, 2025 at Mandela National Stadium, never took place after Vipers failed to show up in protest over FUFA’s newly introduced league format, which was later suspended. Since then, there has been no clear word.
Halfway into the season, neither FUFA’s competitions department nor the UPL Secretariat has publicly clarified what will happen.
Vipers have written to FUFA asking for the match to be rescheduled, but no response has been communicated.
Quiet talk around the league suggests a decision may already exist, that Vipers could lose the match by forfeiture, possibly alongside a three point deduction.
Without official confirmation, however, it remains speculation, leaving clubs, fans and stakeholders guessing.
Elsewhere, several pre-season favourites are underperforming. Big spenders NEC and BUL sit in mid-table after a combined nine defeats, while URA and Express are uncomfortably close to the drop zone.
At the bottom, winless newcomers Calvary are still within reach of safety, with UPDF, Buhimba United Saints and Mbarara City also in the mix.
Still, it is the Vipers–Kitara stalemate that risks undermining the league’s credibility. In a season likely to be decided by fine margins, uncertainty over points from an unplayed match is simply untenable.
Was the outcome settled in the boardroom, or will the teams decide it on the pitch? FUFA and the UPL owe the league a clear answer and soon.
Prolonged silence only fuels doubt and threatens confidence in the competition itself since decision may be timed for example close to season end and Vipers needs three points to win the title.
