The Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) ushered in new leadership on Friday, electing George Wagogo as president for the next four years. Wagogo defeated Agnes Baluka Masajja by 56 votes to 31 during the annual general assembly held at Uganda Christian University, Mukono.
“I am grateful to the AUUS electoral assembly for entrusting me,” Wagogo said in his victory speech. “A lot has been moving astray, so I will begin by getting everything back in order.”
Despite the loss, Baluka was gracious in defeat and left the door open for future service. “I congratulate him for winning; it has been a good election, and I am happy with my 31 votes, 56 is not far.
Now that the elections are done, it’s time to serve. I will focus on my sports consultancy work, but I’m available if entrusted with any responsibility by the executive,” she said.
Wagogo takes over from Penina Kabenge, who has led the association for an unprecedented five consecutive terms.
Kabenge pledged full support to the incoming team, saying, “As the immediate past president, it is my duty to support the new leadership.”
Other Key Elections
The assembly voted for the entire executive board, with only one incumbent retaining a seat. Patrick Ssebuliba was re-elected Secretary General, defeating David Busobozi 63–23. Two other candidates, Agnes Baluka Masajja and Hillary Kimbugwe, withdrew before voting.
Former She Cranes and Gazelles player Martha Soigi, now a Kampala University sports tutor, became 1st Vice President after beating Mustapha Nsubuga 62–24. Nsubuga later stepped aside from the Vice President–Technical race, allowing Samuel Lukaire to go through unopposed.
