The Kyabazinga 7s served up pure rugby drama over the weekend at Bugembe Stadium, with Walukuba Barbarians and Nile Rapids clinching the men’s and women’s titles to keep the crowns in Jinja.
It was a historic weekend for both clubs as they became the first repeat winners of the 2025 Nile Special Uganda National 7s series and also won on home soil, following in the footsteps of Black Pirates and Black Pearls, who achieved home titles at the previous Rujumba 7s.
The tournament wasn’t short on surprises. Platinum Credit Heathens and defending champions Avengers stumbled in key games, while Rhinos crashed out early and Buffaloes failed to make the semifinals. Walukuba took full advantage, tightening their grip on the men’s standings.
In the women’s category, Nile Rapids extended their dominance, while Thunderbirds finished runners-up to remain firmly in the title race and favorites for the overall crown.
Individual brilliance also stood out. Julius Oyuk of Heathens was named Men’s MVP, while Habiba Namalembe of She Wolves took home the Women’s MVP award.
With only a few circuits left, the Kyabazinga 7s reshaped the title race and reaffirmed Jinja’s growing rugby power.
