The 2025 National Uganda 7s ended in a wet, noisy finish at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, but the day belonged to the Walukuba Barbarians and the Thunderbirds.
Walukuba’s men arrived knowing only a Buffaloes win could keep the race alive. When the hosts slipped 10–14 to KOBS on Day One, the title was theirs.
Months of steady dominance across all seven stops paid off, even though their own Cup run ended in the quarterfinals with a 20–5 loss to the Rhinos.
The bigger reward,a UGX 7.5 million winner’s cheque was already secured.
The Thunderbirds matched that achievement on the women’s side. Their 43–7 opening win over the Ewes capped a season of relentless consistency.
A 12–5 semifinal loss to the Nile Rapids didn’t matter; their series lead was untouchable, bringing the same UGX 7.5 million prize.
As rain soaked the crowd, Kyadondo also celebrated the Buffaloes 7s tournament victors, the Heathens for men and Black Pearls for women.
But the lasting story was Walukuba and the Thunderbirds, whose season-long supremacy made them the undisputed 2025 National Uganda 7s champions.
