The first leg of the semifinals of the Uganda Hockey Cup will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Lugogo Hockey Grounds.
Two exciting matchups will be on the card, with defending champions Wananchi taking on Rockets and the inaugural winners of the competition, Weatherhead, facing Kampala Hockey Club (KHC).
Wananchi are the favorites to win the Cup again this year, but they will face a tough challenge from Rockets.
The two teams have already met this season in the league, with Wananchi winning 2-1, but they had to labour to earn that victory.
However, Rockets will be hoping to cause an upset in the semifinals.
For the KHC-Weatherhead tie, the latterwill be eager to reclaim the trophy that they won in 2021.
Not only will they want to silence the Stallions, one of their biggest rivals, they will want to ensure that Wananchi end this season trophyless.
Weatherhead currently lead the table standings in the league. They’re dictating things in that regard.
They will fancy to do the same in the Cup, and be the ones stopping Wananchi from retaining this trophy.
KHC’s form in the league is one that bothers their fans, but the club faithful will know that their team will give their all against Weatherhead. Weatherhead will harbour the same thinking.
