- Ceylon Lions 249/7 in 50 Overs (Hamu Kayondo 64, Charles Musemeza 63)
- Wanderers 140/10 in 33.4 Overs (Perry Wazombe 32, Magwa Arthur 26)
- Ceylon Lions won by 109 runs
It was a weekend to forget for Wanderers Cricket Club, whose misfortunes rolled from Saturday into Sunday.
After their women’s team crashed out of the Women’s T20 Cup with back-to-back losses, the men suffered a crushing 109-run defeat to Ceylon Lions in the UCA Men’s 50 Over League at Lugogo.
Ceylon Lions set the pace with a solid 249/7 in 50 overs, built on composed knocks from Charles Musemeza (63 off 75) and Hamu Kayondo (64 off 75).
Late cameos from Deusdedit Muhumuza (29) and Colline Abonga (24*) pushed them to a strong finish. Wanderers’ bowlers had some success, with Magwa Arthur and Jaffer Ochaya each taking two wickets.
In reply, Wanderers stumbled early and never found their footing. Perry Wazombe (32) and Magwa (26) offered brief resistance, but the team folded for 140 in just 33.4 overs.
Brighton Muganzi led the charge for the Lions with three wickets, while Darshil Dalwadi and Muhumuza chipped in with two apiece.
The loss was Wanderers’ eighth of the season, leaving them stuck in seventh despite playing more matches than any other team.
The Lions’ win pushed them to the top of the standings, level on points with Kutchi Tigers CC.
In Division Two, Tornado CC edged SKLPs by three wickets in a rain-affected chase at GM Sugar Oval, while Kutchi Tigers B secured a 4-wicket derby win at Florida Oval.
