Waterfalls Women’s Elite T20 Tournament | Matchday Two

  • Karuma Rapids 68/3 in 8 overs
  • Itanda Kayakers 69/2 in 6.3 overs

Itanda Kayakers won by 8 wickets

Itanda Kayakers impressed on Matchday Two of the Waterfalls Women’s Elite T20 Tournament at Lugogo Cricket Oval, beating Karuma Rapids before narrowly losing to Bujjagali Rafters in an eventful double header. Karuma remained the only team without a win.

The Kayakers won the toss and chose to bowl in a shortened eight-over match. Their disciplined attack restricted Karuma to 68/3.

Rita Musamali top scored with an unbeaten 32 off 21 balls, while captain Proscovia Alako added 27, but the total never looked safe.

Lorna Anyait, Michelle Ariago and Irene Mutonyi shared the wickets as tight bowling and sharp fielding denied Karuma momentum.

Chasing 69, Itanda stayed calm. Janet Mbabazi led the charge with an unbeaten 33 off 21 balls, hitting four boundaries and a six.

Support from Lorna Anyait and Jimia Abdallah Muhammed kept the runs flowing before Immaculate Nakisuuyi finished the job, sealing an eight wicket win. Mbabazi was named Player of the Match as Karuma’s winless run continued.

  • Itanda Kayakers 116/9 in 20 overs
  • Bujjagali Rafters 117/6 in 20 overs

Bujjagali Rafters won by 4 wickets

In the afternoon, the Kayakers batted first but found runs harder to come by. Mary Namiro anchored the innings with 45 off 40 balls and Mbabazi added early impetus, yet regular wickets slowed progress as they posted 116/9 in 20 overs. Asumin Akurut (4/24) and Sarah Akiteng (2/16) kept the Rafters in control.

Itanda looked set for victory after reducing Bujjagali to 47/6 while defending their total. However, late fielding lapses proved costly.

Ruth Mwanga’s unbeaten 42 and Devine Gabriella Nyamer’s steady 24 turned the match, guiding the Rafters to 117/6 on the final ball to win by four wickets.

Despite disciplined spells from Naume Jane Amongin and Lorna Anyait, the Kayakers could not hold on. Mwanga’s composed finish earned her Player of the Match honours.
