CAF Africa Schools Championship | Group stage phase | Wednesday | MD 1
Girls

Boys
- Ghana Vs Uganda – 2:30 PM (EAT)
As the sun sets over Accra and anticipation thickens in the air, the stage is set for Africa’s rising stars to take center stage at the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship, which officially kicks off on Wednesday, April 23 in Ghana’s capital.
Sixteen under-15 teams, eight boys’ and eight girls’ from across the continent are primed to battle for glory in a tournament designed to unearth the next generation of football talent.
Among them, the Uganda girls’ football team, drawn into a tricky Group B, opens its campaign with perhaps its toughest assignment, defending champions South Africa.
The two sides face off at 10 AM West African time (1 PM EAT) at the University of Ghana Stadium with the match set to be broadcast live on CAF TV.
For Jimmy Kintu, head coach of the Uganda girls’ team and a seasoned tactician at St Noa, the magnitude of the challenge isn’t lost but neither is his confidence.
Speaking on the eve of the opening clash, Kintu painted a picture of readiness and resolve.
“We have had enough resting and training. I believe with the sessions we have had, the girls are ready for the task,” Kintu said.
The coach’s words, calm and grounded, reflect a group that has spent months preparing both mentally and physically for this very moment.
Uganda’s girls come into the tournament with both talent and ambition and their first test against the reigning champions offers a golden opportunity to measure themselves against the best.
Kintu, known for his discipline and player development at St Noa, has molded a squad that balances raw talent with tactical awareness.
His belief in preparation over hype stands out in a tournament often driven by emotion.
“We respect South Africa, but we also trust in our preparation. The girls know what’s at stake and they’re focused,” he concluded.
While the girls take the spotlight first, the boys’ team were drawn in a challenging Group A alongside hosts Ghana, Algeria and South Africa will step onto the field shortly after.
Their opener against Ghana kicks off at 11:30 AM West African time (2:30 PM, EAT), also live on CAF TV.
