After a disappointing maiden appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers where Kampala Queens FC were knocked out of the tournaments in group stages, head coach Charles Ssenyange defined the tournament as a learning campaign.
“We failed to reach our goal in the concluded Zonal Qualifiers but at least we have managed to learn a lot that will help us to improve and do better,” Ssenyange said.
“Despite having a disappointing tournament, I had the best moment of in the tournament and that was the second half against CBE FC, girls were so determined and hungry and indeed at last, we got a hard-fought point.”
The tactician also highlighted the key areas where the club should improve to keep performing well.
“We learned how we should deal with the female gender because a small and minor issue may change her attitude and end up losing a game,” Ssenyange stated.
“We also have to bond the team politically, bring motivational speakers, to talk to these girls and encourage them. We really need to win the league and go back to Zonal Qualifiers and make a statement,” a hopeful Ssenyange concluded.
The Queens of Soccer won two games, drew once and lost one. They finished third behind CBE FC and Buja Queens in Group A.
In July this year, Kampala Queens FC appointed Sam Charles Kadidi Ssenyange Nsanziro as their new head coach on a two-year employment contract.
Ssenyange replaced coach Hamza Lutalo who exited the club at the end of the 2022/23 season after guiding the team to their maiden FUFA Women Super League title.
However, it’s reported that the Queens of Soccer may sack coach Charles Kadidi Ssenyange after a disappointing tournament of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers, and Kadidi’s future remains uncertain.
Kampala Queens is among the 10 teams that passed the club licensing ahead of the 2023/24 season and they’ll host their games at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
