Three time National Hockey League winners Weatherhead maintained their status at the top of the table after thumping Makerere 10-2 in the National Men’s Hockey League.
Thomas Opio scored three goals in that game as the table leaders bettered their goal difference.
With those three goals, Opio now becomes the league’s top scorer with 31 goals. His first goal in this game came in the second quarter before netting the two in the last quarter.
Collins Batusa and Timothy Ntumba were also on the score sheet. The pair each scored a brace, with Batusa scoring first in the 3rd quarter and Ntumba in the 4th.
Moses Tushabe, Maxwell Mugisha and Brian Okodi also scored for the league leaders.
Mathias Akanyihayo scored for Makerere, but his brace could only pass for a consolation.
The result keeps Weatherhead on top of the table on goal difference.
Wananchi who played on Sunday made sure of this. The defending champions beat Weatherhead Titans 5-0.
Jordan Achaye, Shafiq Byamukama, Innocent Tumukunde and Emmanuel Baguma were all on the score sheet as Wananchi ensured only the goal difference separated them from Weatherhead.
Like Weatherhead, Kampala Stallions registered a big win.
The Stallions beat KHC Originals 10-0, with Aaron Mutenyonotching five goals.
Stuart Sempebwa, Alfred Agaba, Ernest Musumba and Pike Atuhaire also got their names on the score sheet.
The Stallions stay fourth despite the win while the Historicals remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
