Weatherhead (M) edged Rockets 2-0 on Saturday, 30th September 2023, to remain top of the table in the National Men’s Hockey League.
The league’s top scorers Thomas Opio and Collins Batusa got the two goals as Weatherhead toiled to stay on top of the table.
The duo’s goals came in the first quarter, but as was predicted, Rockets were a handful.
Despite Weatherhead being the highest-scoring team in the league, Rockets didn’t make it easy for them to earn those three points.
Nonetheless, Weatherhead were able to eke out the victory. They remain top of the table on goal difference as Wananchi thumped Badgers 5-1 on Sunday.
Jackson Musinguzi bagged a hat trick as Wananchi saw off Badgers.
Shafic Byamukama and James Larombi scored the other two goals for Wananchi who remain second on goal difference.
Rockets dropped a place down to fourth following that loss.
Following Kampala Stallions‘ 4-0 win over City Lions, KHC dislodged Rockets from the third position.
There was a hat trick in this game too. Richard Ssemwogerere scored three for his side as they cruised past the Lions. Benjamin Mkapa scored the other goal.
City Lions remain seated fifth in the league standings with 20 points while Badgers remain seventh with 12 points.
