What to know ahead of the 2025 Rujumba7s

The Rujumba7s, the fourth stop of the 2025 Uganda Rugby 7s Series, kicks off this weekend, August 30–31, at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere.

Hosted by the Black Pirates RFC, the annual tournament celebrates the legacy of Henry Rujumba, the late Ugandan rugby legend and former Pirates player who passed away in 2015.

This year’s edition promises high-intensity action, fierce rivalries, and fresh battles across both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Buffaloes arrive at Kings Park top of the National 7s standings after three circuits, built on consistency and resilience.

Once crowned the “Kings of 7s Rugby” between 2013 and 2015, the Kyadondo-based side is chasing a return to glory.

Led by rising stars Daniels Otim and Humphrey Ndahura, the Buffaloes have reached the semifinals in all three stops, finishing 3rd at Coronation 7s, champions at Gulu 7s, and runners-up at Entebbe 7s.

Platinum Credit Heathens remain their closest challengers with a circuit win and two finals appearances, but a disappointing 9th-place finish at Gulu gives Buffaloes a slight edge heading into this weekend.

After finishing 5th at Kings Park last year, they’ll be eager to make a bigger statement on Pirates’ turf.

The Nile Rapids have stormed back into contention after a flawless run at the Plascon Entebbe 7s earlier this month.

They went unbeaten, stunned heavyweights Walukuba Titans, and clinched the title with a tense 10-5 sudden-death win over Avengers.

Once considered outsiders behind Avengers, Thunderbirds, and Black Pearls, the Rapids’ resurgence signals a shift in women’s 7s rugby.

As reigning 2023 Uganda Cup champions, they enter Kings Park with renewed belief and momentum.
