The UCA Men’s National 50-Over League is back this weekend with two matches, one for survival, the other for the title chase.
At Entebbe Cricket Oval, it’s do-or-die for Wanderers and Aboojo. Wanderers sit second from bottom on 8 points after 13 games; Aboojo are just one point and one place ahead. A loss for either could drag them into the relegation pit.
Their first meeting this season ended in rare drama, a tie. Aboojo posted 123, led by Joseph Baguma’s quick 37, before Abrar Ul Haq ripped through them with 5/29.
Wanderers were cruising at 98/3 thanks to Raheel Sarwal’s 46, but Mathew Musinguzi (4/26) and Baguma (3/21) sparked a collapse. Abrar levelled the scores late, but the winning run never came.
Form offers little comfort. Wanderers are still smarting from a 109-run loss to Ceylon Lions; Aboojo fell to Rounders by 3 wickets. Both are desperate, both dangerous.
Over at Serenity Oval, Kamengo, defending champions Kutchi Tigers face Tornado Bee with the title race in mind.
The Tigers are second on 18 points, chasing leaders Ceylon Lions. Tornado Bee are fifth with 9 points, just one clear of the drop zone.
When they last met, Tigers won by 54 runs in a rain-cut 42-over game. Mitul Pindoriya’s 74 and Ghanshyam Ashani’s 30 anchored 218/9 despite Cyrus Kibukamusoke’s four wickets.
Tornado Bee started brightly through Roger Mukasa (41) and Jonathan Ssebanja (30), but Alpesh Hirani (4/20) and Kush Mahesh Vekariya (3 wickets) shut them down.
Tornado Bee come in off a narrow 9-run loss to Ceylon Lions; Kutchi Tigers edged JACC by 30 runs (DLS). Both smell opportunity, both feel the pressure.
