CAF Champions League | Preliminary Round 2 | Second Leg

(Power Dynamos Leads tie 2-1)

  • Power Dynamos Vs Vipers – 4 pm | Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola

Vipers SC face their biggest test of the season this Friday as they take on Power Dynamos at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, with a place in the CAF Champions League group stages at stake.

The Ugandan champions trail 2–1 from the first leg in Kitende and must win by at least two clear goals to advance. It’s a tough task against the 1991 CAF Winners’ Cup champions, but not an impossible one.

In the first leg, Vipers took the lead through Yunus Sentamu before a brilliant strike from Kenyan forward Moses Suma and an unfortunate own goal by Derrick Ndahiro turned the game in the Zambians’ favor.

Despite the setback, captain Milton Karisa says belief in the camp remains strong.

“We didn’t show our best for 90 minutes in the first leg, and it cost us,” Karisa admitted.

“But we believe in ourselves. If we have no belief, we have no chance. Let’s do it together, Venoms.”

Head coach Jacky Ivan Minnaert shares that optimism.

“We have 90 minutes to change our story,” said the Belgian tactician.

“Power Dynamos showed hunger, but we have the quality. Now we must show composure, focus, and belief.”

Minnaert will be forced to tweak his defence, with Kevin Baddy Daslyva suspended.

Rogers Torach is likely to partner Hilary Mukundane at centre-back, while Enock Luyima and Derrick Ndahiro contest the left-back role.

In midfield, Taddeo Lwanga, Karim Watambala, and Enock Ssebagala are expected to start, with Allan Okello playing just behind the forwards.

Probable XI: Dennis Kiggundu (GK), Ashraf Mandela, Hilary Mukundane, Rogers Torach, Derrick Ndahiro, Taddeo Lwanga, Abdul-Karim Watambala, Enock Ssebagala, Allan Okello, Milton Karisa, Yunus Sentamu.
