While representing the Buganda Kingdom on behalf of the Katikkiro (Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister) of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, at the climax of the Buganda Schools Championship held between 11th and 15th March at Kawanda SS,

Ssabawolereza wa Buganda (Buganda Kingdom Attorney General) Christopher Bwanika highlighted Buganda Kingdom initiatives in sports as model sights for fellow Kingdoms.

Speaking to the Media at the closing ceremony of the Championship on Sunday, March 15, he stated, “As people in the Buganda Kingdom, we are very grateful to Kabaka that he continues directing us in major sports activities.”

With this impressive Buganda Schools Championship, it is another set of models for other Kingdoms. We all know what is happening with the Buganda Masaza cup; we led by example, and now every Kingdom is moving towards the initiative,” he added.

He further stated, “In a few years, you will hear of kingdoms like Bunyoro, Busoga, and others starting to have this mode of school championships.”

Buganda brought back the Buganda Masaza Cup in 2004, and it took about 10 years of operation before Bunyoro Kingdom became the second Kingdom to have the initiative, while others like Busoga and Tooro joined in following.

Again, Buganda remains the first Kingdom to initiate a national Marathon, dubbed Kabaka Birthday runs, again a route which is being taken by other Kingdoms like Busoga. Now, other initiatives in Buganda Schools, Rowing Cycling, and Magombolola football championships are turning focus.
