The stage is set for the much-anticipated kickoff of the Women’s T20 2025, with the defending champions Soroti City Cricket Club making early headlines by securing the signature of one of Uganda’s brightest stars, Jimia Mohammed Abdallah.
The former Baby Cricket Cranes captain and standout wicketkeeper-batter joins Soroti City in a blockbuster move from Olila Cricket Club, bolstering an already dominant squad chasing their third consecutive title.
Known for her fearless batting and sharp glove work, Jimia’s addition brings both experience and firepower to a team already rich with talent.
Jimia’s cricketing résumé speaks volumes. She was crowned Best Wicketkeeper during last year’s Girls Schools Cricket Week and captained Uganda’s U-19 side at the ICC World Cup qualifiers in Kigali.
In 2024, she led Olila to the finals, only to fall short against her new team, Soroti City. Her move headlines a series of high-profile transfers that also include all-rounders Racheal Achan, Ruth Akello, and Christine Anayo, making Soroti City the team to beat this season.
Meanwhile, Olila CC will look to regroup, giving space for rising stars to step into the spotlight.
The action begins this Saturday at Lugogo, where Soroti City will debut their star-studded lineup against Pioneer Cricket Club, a youthful side led by coach Yusuf Nanga and largely composed of players from Masaka Secondary School.
The underdogs will be eager to spring an early upset against the champions.
