Wanderers Cricket Club’s season ended in heartbreak on Saturday as Tornado Bees edged them out in a tense double-header at Lugogo, snatching the final semifinal spot in the 2025 Women’s T20 League.
Wanderers needed just one win to advance. Instead, they crumbled under pressure first in a dramatic super over loss, then in a clinical defeat that sealed their exit.
The opening game was a thriller. After both teams finished their 20 overs tied on 89 runs, the match headed to a super over. Tornado Bees struck 12 runs, and Wanderers faltered in reply, ending their hopes.
Lynette Nakato starred with three key wickets and calm leadership when it mattered most, earning Player of the Match honors.
In the afternoon rematch, the Bees were even more dominant. Bowling first again, they squeezed Wanderers to 73 for 9 with disciplined, relentless pressure. The chase was straightforward Tornado Bees cruised home with six wickets in hand.
With the two wins, Tornado Bees jumped to 10 points, leapfrogging both Wanderers and Pioneer to clinch the last Group A semifinal slot. Pioneer, who had no games left, could only watch their chances disappear.
Elsewhere in Group B, Jinja SS thrashed Africa Cricket Club twice by 100 and 80 runs in matches that had no impact on the standings but served as a strong semifinal warning.
The semifinals are now locked in as defending champions Soroti City will face Jinja SS, while Tornado Bees take on Olila.
