Olila Cricket Club played their hearts out in the Women’s T20 League doubleheader victory against Aziz Damani on Saturday.

The student-dominated side faced off with the defending champions at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in a match-day four outing.

Olila edged both ties, winning the first game by 7 wickets and making better use of the Super Over to win the afternoon one.

The morning showers had threatened to wash out the morning game, but as soon the skies cleared, the covers were removed, and the decision was to play six Overs.

The ball got rolling, with Olila who won the toss fielding first. Opener Proscovia Alako did score 21 runs in this innings.

Damani’s defence of their 35 runs did start on a good note, with the first wicket (Jimia Mohammed) falling with the very first ball off the bowling of Consy Aweko.

Damani picked two more wickets, and they seemed on course of picking their sixth win of the season. But, a lacklustre fielding in a crunch moment cost them.

With Aweko taking charge of the final Over, the last ball arrived with Olila needing two runs off one ball.

Aweko sent the ball to Naome Amongin who hit it towards sweeper covers but a series of misfields happened in that moment to miss out on the wicket.

Olila ended up bagging the much-needed four runs thus, the Soroti side winning by seven wickets.

Drama continued in the afternoon game which needed a Super Over to determine the winner.

Having won the toss, Yusuf Nanga’s charges went for the bat, and they put on board 108/7.

Alako (28), Patricia Malemekia (23), and Gloria Obukor (12) led the hunt for the runs for Damani in this game.

However, Emmanuel Twijukye’s team was equally equipped to match Aziz Damani’s effort with the bat.

The partnership of the top order batters in Jimia and Lorna Anyait produced 54 combined runs for Olila who took the game to the wire.

Teddy Oyella claimed 3 wickets, but as it turned out to be, they were not enough to overcome the Soroti side.

By the time the 20th Over of the second Innings was done, the score was a tie, both teams on 108.

This meant the Super Over was inevitable, and as such, Olila continued with the batting. Malisa Ariokot and Jimia were handed the responsibility, and boy did they torment Malemekia!

Ariokot scored 12 off that Over while Jimia got 7. In total, it was 20 for Olila. Damani sent in Alako and Malemekia to counter, but this was not achieved as they managed only 3 runs.

It was a win mostly beneficial to Soroti City who now reclaim the top position. Olila stay third while Damani are demoted to the second position.
