Home Others Hockey Zambezi Hockey Series: Uganda’s Hockey She Cranes Win Gold

Despite losing 2-1 to hosts Zambia on Sunday morning, the Uganda’s female national team, the Hockey She Cranes clinched the Zambezi Series.

A cold Saturday evening in Lusaka drifted into a windswept Sunday morning that seemed to bite into the confidence of the Ugandan players.

Zambia drew first blood in the 19th minute through Priscilla Mtawito but Winnie Alaro leveled from a penalty corner after combining with her sister Norah Alum in the 30th minute.

Mercy Mutanibo then scored Zambia’s second in the 32nd minute and it became a see-saw of a game. Both defences did their bit to close it out at that.

However, having won the Saturday encounter 4-2 and drawing 2-2 on Friday, Uganda retained a goal advantage of one to win the Series.

It would have been right and just for the victors to be awarded Nnalubaale medals today being Hero’s Day.

Reason, they braved a 2500km road trip down to Zambia, only had hours to shake off the fatigue before fighting for the Black, Yellow, and Red flag at the Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka.
