2022 National Independence Swimming Gala cancelled

The 2022 National Independence swimming gala that was scheduled for 1st of October 2022 at the Greenhill Academy Kibuli has been called off.

Uganda Swimming Federation Executive has announced the development in a headed letter dated 19th of September 2022.

“Due to unavoidable circumstances, the Swimming Executive would like to notify all concerned of the unfortunate cancellation of the 2022 Edition of the Gala,” read part of the letter.

The Executive further stated that it is reviewing the format of the Independence Swimming Gala and will guide on its implementation during the 2023 Calendar going forward.

The cancellation of the swimming gala comes with only days before the planned date and nearly 3 years after its hiatus due to the Covid19 pandemic.

The National Independence Swimming Gala is an annual event held in October to coincide with the Uganda Independence celebrations.

The event brings together swimmers from different schools in the country to compete for the top spot in different swimming styles that include 400m relays, 200-400 medley relay, 100m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 50 meter breaststroke and others.

The USF Executive while announcing the gala’s cancellation this year, shared its regrets for the inconveniences caused and thanked the stakeholders for their continued support while promising to continue working with them on the issues concerning the gala.
