Monday was a good day in the office for the Uganda national boxing team, the Bombers at the ongoing Paris Boxing Olympics Qualifiers.
The team had three of its boxers make it to the quarterfinals following dominant displays down in Dakar, Senegal.
Captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa registered his second knockout at the tournament against Gabon’s Farlo Clinton Ndjinga to reach the last eight.
The other boxer expected by many to make it to the quarterfinals, Isaac Ssenyange didn’t disappoint as he defeated South Africa’s Bongoco Simnikiwe.
The best highlight of the day was Shafik Fathia Mawanda winning his first international fight against a homeboy, Senegalese Sow Pape Mamadou.
The Bombers’ strong showing on Monday came after a slow start to the tournament, which saw the face of Ugandan boxing Shadir Musa fall to Algeria’s Younes Nemouchi.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympian, Bwogi over the weekend joined Jonah Kyobe and Grace Nankinga who also lost their bouts on Saturday.
Despite the early setbacks, the Bombers are still in contention for a number of medals and qualification for the Paris Olympics.
Tukamuhebwa, Ssenyange, and Mawanda are all potential medalists, and the team will be hoping for more good results in the quarterfinals.
