2023 Masaza Cup Launch: Defending Champions Busiro to Kick Off Against Mawokota

The 2023 Masaza Cup was launched on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, with the Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, as the guest of honor.

The tournament will feature 18 teams pitted in three groups. Each team received five balls, 50 jerseys, and UGX 10 million to help with their preparations.

Kansai Plascon joined other sponsors, including Airtel Uganda, Centenary Bank, CBS Radio, BBS Telefayina, and UNAIDS, in supporting the tournament.

The total package from Kansai Plascon is UGX 100 million.

The 2023 Masaza Cup will kick off on Saturday, June 24, 2023, with defending champions Busiro hosting three-time winners Mawokota at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

The King of Buganda Kingdom, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, will grace the official opening match.

“I am glad to inform the Kingdom that on Saturday, June 24, 2023, the Kabaka will officiate at the official opening of the 2023 Masaza Cup between Busiro and Mawokota at Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium,” Katikkiro Mayiga confirmed.

Busiro are the reigning champions after edging Buddu 2-1 in the finals that were played at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

The groups for the 2023 Masaza Cup are as follows:

  • Muganzirwazza: Busiro, Ggomba, Mawokota, Ssese, Mawogola, Kabula
  • Masengere: Buddu, Buweekula, Kyaggwe, Kyaddondo, Buluuli, Kkooki
  • Bulange: Ssingo, Bulemeezi, Butambala, Buvuma, Bugerere, Busujju
