The first leg of the Olympic Women Qualifiers match between Uganda and Rwanda will be officiated by Tanzanian officials on July 12, 2023 in Uganda.
Jonesia Rukyaa will be the center referee, while Janeth Balama and Glory Tesha will be the first and second assistant referees, respectively. Tatu Malogo will serve as the fourth official.
The East African derby’s first leg is scheduled for July 12, 2023, in Uganda, with the second leg to follow a week later in Huye, Rwanda.
The winner of the Uganda vs. Rwanda match will advance to face Cameroon in the next round of the Olympic Games qualifiers.
In their previous encounter during the CECAFA Senior Women Challenge Championship last year, Uganda emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, courtesy of Fazila Ikwaput‘s brace.
With only three weeks remaining until the first meeting, the Uganda senior women’s football national team, Crested Cranes, is currently without a coach following George Lutalo‘s departure in July after a disappointing performance in WAFCON.
On Tuesday, June 20, 2023, Grace Nyinawumuntu, the coach of the Rwanda Women’s National Team, announced a 25-woman squad to commence preparations for the upcoming matches against Uganda.
Uganda previously participated in the qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 edition but was eliminated in the first round by regional rivals Ethiopia.
This time, a total of 25 teams will compete in the Olympic Games qualifying tournament, with 18 teams involved in the first round.
The remaining seven, including top-ranked South Africa, will join in the second round as the highest-ranked teams from the previous Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The upcoming Olympic Games will be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
