In their first game at the 2023 Netball World Cup, Uganda made light work of Singapore, beating them 79-37.
The She Cranes showed their might right from the start against their opponents at the Cape Town International Conventional Center in South Africa.
The Fred Mugerwa coached side led 22-09 by the end of the first quarter, despite resting skipper Irene Eyaru and Mary Nuba.
The lead was extended to 42-18 by halftime, and later to 62-29 after the third quarter,
Nuba and Eyaru were given a taste of the action and came on for Shadiah Nassanga and Hanisha Muhammed.
Uganda’s victory was inspired by Muhammed who managed 30 goals in 35 attempts, Nassanga (12/13) and Nuba who hit 17 over 19 attempts.
Despite the resounding victory today, it doesn’t promise similar roses when the She Cranes take on New Zealand on Saturday.
New Zealand are the defending Champions and rank second in the world, ahead of Uganda, who are placed eighth.
New Zealand beat Trinidad and Tobago 76-27 on Friday in what was the first tournament game.
