The Uganda men’s 7s will be competing in the 2025 Challenger Series, for a chance to be on the 2026 Main HSBC SVNS calendar.
Uganda managed this feat after defeating Zambia 32-00 in a one-sided quarterfinal of the second weekend of the Africa 7s in Mauritius.
Uganda ran in six tries to none, courtesy of a double from Nobert Okeny, and Timothy Kisiga, Dennis Etwau, Aaron Ofoywroth, and Alex Aturinda each grabbing one.
With the appearance in the semifinals, Uganda has mathematically taken one of two spots granted to the African continent. The least number of points Uganda can accumulate is 34 points, more than what Zimbabwe can gain even with a win (32).
Zimbabwe and Madagascar, both in the semifinals, now fight for the last 2025 Challenger Series spot. South Africa is not in contention for the slot, given their mainstay fixture on the HSBC SVNS roster.
Uganda will play Zimbabwe in the second semifinal at 12:13 pm EAT.
