Walukuba Barbarians opened the 2025 Uganda National Rugby 7s season in style, defending their Kabaka Coronation 7s title with a convincing 19β5 win over Heathens in Sundayβs final at Kyadondo Rugby Club.

The Barbarians reached the final after a hard-fought 12β5 semifinal win against Rhinos. Heathens had earlier edged Buffaloes 10β7 in a heated Kyadondo derby.

In the womenβs final, Thunderbirds blanked Walukuba Titans 15β0 to lift the crown. Thunderbirds narrowly beat She Wolves 5β0 in the semifinals, while Titans defeated Avengers 12β0 to reach the final.

The win marks back to back Coronation 7s titles for Walukuba, who claimed last yearβs edition at Wankulukuku. Meanwhile, defending womenβs champions Avengers bowed out in the semifinals.
With the Titans finishing second, rugby in Busoga continues to show promise. They earned UGX 3 million for their run, while the Barbarians took home UGX 5 million for winning the menβs competition.
The National 7s series continues next weekend with the Gulu Sevens, set for August 9β10 at Pece Stadium.
