Daniel Rweyora wants the 2026 Kyadondo 7s to be a true celebration of Ugandan rugby.
The Local Organising Committee chairperson says the tournament will bring the country’s top men’s and women’s sevens teams together for two days of fast, physical rugby and real competition.
“Kyadondo 7s brings men’s and women’s rugby together for one big weekend. Two days of fast, physical rugby and real competition. This tournament shows what Ugandan rugby can be when it’s done right,” Rweyora said at the tournament launch on Wednesday.
The Kyadondo 7s will be held on August 22 and 23 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds under the theme Legacy Lives Here, with Heathens RFC hosting the event.
For Rweyora, the focus is on giving both players and fans an experience that reflects the quality of rugby being played in Uganda.
The tournament will feature men’s and women’s sevens rugby, entertainment and fan activities across the two days.
This year’s event will also have a new look, with AS Sports Africa joining as the Official Kit Partner and a new 7s jersey unveiled.
The Player Edition, Fan Edition and Kyadondo 7s-themed shirts will be available at the Kyadondo Rugby Grounds Merchandise Shop.
The tournament carries added significance for Heathens, whose home is steeped in Ugandan rugby history just like Buffaloes and Thunderbirds. Its Legacy Lives Here theme is a nod to that history while looking ahead.
Heathens chairman Desire Derekford Mugumisa said the club was proud to welcome the new partners while continuing to build on its rugby heritage.
Gates open at 7am on Saturday, with the first kick-off scheduled for 8am. The Kyadondo 7s will be the third stop on the Uganda Rugby 7s circuit, following the Stone City 7s, won by Walukuba Barbarians and Nile Rapids, and the Rujumba 7s, where Pirates and Nile Rapids again emerged winners.
