A thirteen-man Rugby Cranes 7s squad has been named for the 2026 Driftwood 7s, taking place in Mombasa, Kenya, from August 22–23, 2026.
The games at Mombasa Sports Club will serve as the 4th Circuit of the 2026 Kenya National 7s and mark the 36th edition of the Driftwood 7s event, which has been running since approximately 1989/1990.
Uganda departed today and will compete in Pool B alongside top Kenyan clubs, including KCB Rugby, Blak Blad, and Kisumu.
“This tournament will help the team test and fine-tune combinations in preparation for the upcoming events in September 2026 and January 2027,” noted Ramsey Olinga, the Uganda Rugby Chief Technical Officer.
He added, “The team is in good shape, bar a few niggles with some players, but this tournament should be a good boost for our team. All the best to the players.”
The selected team, featuring a mixture of experience and fresh legs, will be captained by Ian Munyani, with Alex Aturinda serving as vice-captain.
“We are giving them an opportunity to get themselves ready for the tournament in September. This is one of the tournaments we want to use to fine-tune the team,” said Allan Otim, Head Coach of the Rugby Cranes 7s.
