Kyadondo Rugby Club teams, Heathens and Thunderbirds, were crowned overall champions of the 2026 Uganda Rugby 7s Series over the weekend.
This followed their consistent performances throughout the competition, accumulating points up to the series’ final stop held at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
Heathens secured the men’s overall title with 112 points, while Thunderbirds topped the women’s competition with 121 points at the conclusion of the national series.
In addition, both teams won the Kabaka Coronation Rugby 7s, the final stop of the competition, with Heathens and Thunderbirds winning over Walukuba Barbarians and Nile Rapids RFC respectively following post-match coin tosses.
The final circuit’s outstanding players were Shafik Mansour from Walukuba Barbarians and Thunderbirds star Procovia Mukyala.
At the same venue, the season’s overall Most Valuable Players were recognized and rode home on brand-new bikes. National team players Allan Karuhanga and Grace Nabagala were named the best of the best.
“The season sharpened noticeably with teams pushing each other to levels we haven’t seen before. That rise in standard also surfaced new challenges, setting an even higher bar for us to clear next season,” noted Desire Derekford Mugumisa, the Chairperson of the organizing committee.
