Uganda Lady Cranes Rugby and Thunderbirds Rugby Club new signing Angella Nanyonjo Zziwa is our star ⭐️ of the day.
From a young age, Zziwa’s love for sports led her on a journey through various disciplines. But it was in the organized chaos of rugby that she truly found her calling.
Zziwa’s dedication landed her a spot with Kenya’s Northern Suburbs Ladies Rugby Club, where she unleashed her “beast mode.”
Back in Uganda, Zziwa helped her former club, Avengers, defy the odds and clinch the 2022 Uganda Cup title against record holders Thunderbirds, the game ending in a nail-biting 18-16 victory.

Her fearless runs and bone-crunching tackles have earned her several player-of-the-match accolades and even a 2022 Rugby Union Awards MVP nomination (ultimately won by then teammate Peace Lekuru).
Yet, despite this shared success, Zziwa made a controversial switch to the very team she’d just conquered.
Blessed with a natural physique coveted by many supplement-poppers, Zziwa’s versatility allows her to seamlessly switch between Number 8, Flanker, and even Center, making her a valuable asset for both club and country.
A rare breed in Ugandan rugby, Zziwa has donned both the 7s and 15s jerseys for the national team, representing the Rugby Lady Cranes with pride.
Now a mainstay in the 15s national team, amassing over 10 caps already, she’s slowly etching her name in the annals of Ugandan rugby.
Don’t let her beauty fool you. On the pitch, she’s a merciless predator, effortlessly taking down opponents before turning her sights on the next challenge.
And for those wondering who scored the first try in Ugandan rugby in 2024, look no further than Angella Nanyonjo. Just over 10 minutes into the Thunderbirds vs. Panthers match at The Graveyard, Makerere, she planted the first flag of the season.
This means more!
