Uganda Premier League side UPDF FC have completed the signing of creative midfielder Arafat Kakonge from Rwanda’s Etoile De L’est.
Kakonge has agreed personal terms and signed a two-year contract to join the Bombo based side.
The attacking midfielder was at UPDF FC in 2020 where he spent only a full season before joining UPL side Police FC.
Last season, Kakonge played half the season with Maroons and spent the last half with Rwanda’s Etoile De L’est.
At Etoile De L’est, Kakonge netted four times and registered 8 assists and helped team to gain topflight promotion.
The 22-yr old is known for creates chances for his teammates through his intelligence and quickness on the ball.
Goalkeeper Waswa Yusuf, Vuni Bright Joseph, Sam Kintu and Robert Eseru are the other players who have rejoined UPDF FC ahead of the new season.
Other signings are left back Tebandeke Christopher, Tenywa Henry Penza, Shugai Kalisa, Kaija Derrick, Kabuye Bashir and Kawooya Edward.
Kakonge has previously played for UPDF FC, Maroons, Wakiso Giants, Police FC, Kyetume and Etoile De L’est in Rwanda.
UPDF will get their Uganda Premier League campaign underway against URA FC at the Bombo Barracks Ground on Sunday 17th September 2023.
