Boxing Olympics Qualifiers: Bombers to learn opponents this evening

Uganda’s National Boxing team, the Bombers will go to bed today knowing their first opponents at the 2023 African Boxing Olympics Qualification Tournament in Dakar, Senegal.

The draws of the tournament due September 9-15, a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics in France, will be held today evening.

The Bombers’ squad comprises six boxers including former captain Shadir Musa Bwogi (80kg) who made a return to the side since turning professional.

Captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa (63.5kg) Isaac Zebra Ssenyange (71kg) and Jonathan Kyobe (57kg) are the other faces with continental experience.

The other two are; Grace Nankinga (50kg), the only female boxer on the squad, and Fathia Shafik Mawanda (51kg) whose footwork is a joy to watch.

Apart from Nankinga who only needs to reach the final to qualify, the other team members have to beat everybody in their respective categories.

The number to beat is three as; Shadir Musa, David Ssemujju, and Catherine Nanziri were Uganda’s representatives at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
