The 2026 Sky View Boys Schools Cricket Week will return to Fort Portal City from August 22–29, expanding from 18 to 20 of the country’s top school cricket teams competing for the national crown.

The tournament features schools from six regions: Nile, Central, Eastern, Northern, Western, and South Western Uganda.

Five debutants will join the competition: St. Cornelius SS Kalagala, Uganda Martyrs College Ssonde, Olila High School, Lango College, and Kasese Secondary School.

For Emmanuel Kakuba, the host coordinator and cricket teacher at Nyakasura School, the tournament’s return is a welcome opportunity to put Fort Portal’s cricket potential in the spotlight.

Kakuba expects more than 320 participants to take part, with the competition also offering visitors an opportunity to experience Fort Portal while following the action.

“There is a lot of talent in this region that has not yet received enough exposure. Hosting an event of this magnitude will help bring that talent to the forefront and inspire more young people to take up cricket,” Kakuba said.

Unlike last year, when games were played across six grounds, this year’s tournament will be spread across seven grounds in Fort Portal.

Nyakasura School, St. Leo’s College Kyegobe, and Kichwamba will each provide two playing fields, with one additional field at Canon Apollo Primary School. These venues will host the group stages, knockout matches, and the national final.

The return of Boys Schools Cricket Week to Fort Portal is set to strengthen the growth of cricket in Western Uganda, bringing together young players, schools, and key match officials while opening new pathways for talent development.

Cricket Uganda Development Manager Davis Turinawe said taking the competition to different parts of the country remains crucial in widening the sport’s reach and supporting the development of cricket outside its traditional strongholds.

He noted that the tournament will not only give young cricketers valuable competitive exposure but also encourage more schools and stakeholders to embrace the game.

“Hosting the tournament in Western Uganda gives us an opportunity to grow the cricket community in the region. We want to see more schools taking up the sport, more young people playing cricket, and greater participation from teachers, umpires, and scorers,” Turinawe said.

Several matches will be streamed live alongside other activities planned throughout the tournament, inviting cricket followers from across the country to make the trip to Fort Portal to enjoy both the competition and the city’s surroundings.

Busoga College Mwiri, the most successful school in the history of the competition, added another title in 2025, taking its championship tally to an impressive 20 titles and further strengthening its place in tournament history.
