Home Football Men’s Football Uganda Cranes CECAFA: Uganda thrash, eliminate Djibouti

Uganda Women football team, the Crested Cranes trumped Djibouti 5-0 in their second game of the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championships on Friday at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Aisha Nantongo, Margaret Namirimu, Sandra Nabweteme, Phionah Nabbumba and Fazila Ikwaput were all on target as the Cranes moved top of Group A.

The result also buried Djibouti’s hopes of leaving the group having lost the first game of the tournament, 3-0 to Burundi.

Uganda broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, as Nantongo glided past the Djibouti defenders before striking past the goalkeeper.

Namirimu doubled the lead two minutes to the end of the first half, to cap off an efficient first 45 minutes.

Four minutes after the restart, Nabweteme was in the right place at the right time to tap home a well laid Ikwaput pass.

Three minutes later, the 2021/22 FUFA Women’s Super League MVP, Nabbumba added a fourth with Ikwaput completing the day’s massacre in the 66th minute.

Uganda will return to action on Sunday against Burundi whilst Djibouti will play Rwanda.
