Confederation of African Athletics top event, the African Senior Championships is back after a four-year of hiatus.

The games were originally scheduled to take place in Algeria in 2020, but were forcefully postponed and then cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With an opportunity of winning medals on the table, Uganda Athletics Federation has rolled out a team of 17 athletes who will feature in the Mauritius edition, which is bound to kickstart on 8th June until 12th of the same month.

The traveling squad comprises seven females who will be captained by Leni Shida (400m) and 10 males, with Benson Okot (100m, 200m) the skipper.

The female team stretches to national 100m record holder Jacent Nyamuhunge, Aciru Knight (1500m) and Janat Chemusto (1500m, 5000m).

Other participants on the women’s team are; Olympian Sarah Chelangat (5000m, 10,000m), Chebet Rachael Zena (10,000m) and javelin thrower Josephine Lalam.

Besides Okot the other men are; Pius Adome (100m, 200m), Adoli Heron (400m) and Godfrey Chanwengo (400m).

The current national cross country champion, Ali Chebures (10,000m) also made the cut into the traveling team.

He is joined by Osuje Emmanuel (800m), Dradiga Tom (800m), Abu Mayanja (1500m) and Otim Emmanuel (1500m).

Ezekiel Chemutai completes the men’s team and will lineup in the 3000m steeplechase event.
