The second tier of the national rugby sevens kicks off this weekend in Makerere, hosted by the Impis Academy and iNtangas.

The Central Region 7s will see university sides playing in the shorter version of the game alongside developmental sides.

Recently 15s-promoted Kitante Eagles will be locked in the second pool alongside the second sides of the Impis, Rhinos and Heathens in Intangas, Kifaru and Stallions, respectively.

Pool B is as tough as they come, with Sailors (Stanbic Black Pirates second string side) coming up against Makerere University Academy side, Impis Academy, Kisubi Pacers and Buffaloes second side, Bisons.

The Rams Academy side is in Pool A alongside the stubborn BOKs, Jjengo and the Nakawa University side, MUBS.

There is a second Rams side in the competition, locked in Pool D with Kyambogo, Blue Phoenix and Jaguars.

The winner of the second tier rugby sevens will attain promotion into core status for next year, a feat that Rhinos achieved last and will enjoy this year.
